MAIN PRODUCTS & SERVICES
Laminate Tools is a powerful Windows application aimed at the professional composites designer. It addresses the entire Design-Analysis-Check-Manufacture group process of structural design, but focuses on the composite material features. It is a tool that links the various disciplines, communicates original data between departments, ensures proper understanding of the structure, offers in-depth checks and saves valuable team time.
Users import surface models from almost any CAD system and define composite materials, plies and layup using a state-of-the-art graphical user interface. Ply producibility can be evaluated immediately using proven draping simulation algorithms to identify potential manufacturing difficulties, meaning fewer change orders downstream.
Data for finite element analysis purposes are generated seamlessly, ensuring that analysis models reflect the design intent. Results from the finite element analysis can be checked in detail using advanced composites failure criteria, and weak areas identified rapidly.
Manufacturing information such as flat patterns and plybooks are produced to ensure efficient use of manufacturing data. Finally, Laminate Tools can be used as an electronic ply book to communicate the complex structure of composite components and structures to clients, subcontractors and the shop floor.
PlyMatch is a state-of-the-art, innovative technology for the shop floor, that integrates hardware with software, to assist in accurately and correctly placing plies during hand-layup manufacturing.
The purpose of the novel Ply Placement Visual Control System is to display together on a screen a live video image of the “real world” that the operator is interacting with, and a computer-generated image of the structure and composite ply being assembled. The operator looks at the screen and aligns the actual ply with its image as drawn by the software.

The data for the computer generated drawings of the plies that are displayed correctly in place, may originate from virtually any CAD application, or from our own Laminate Tools software application, for access to additional features. In this way, ply information comes directly from design and may not require any translation or manipulation whatsoever, for use with the system.
We offer advanced training on design and structural analysis of products made by composites materials.
The courses provided by SmartCAE are coordinated by qualified engineers with years of experience in the field of simulation and structural calculation. All courses tend to favor the application aspects of the simulation, providing students with software and exercises with which it is possible to acquire the necessary skills to understand the problems of the EWC, from the creation of the model to the interpretation of the results.
The aim of these courses is to provide the participant with the necessary skills to interpret the engineering problem, to clearly identify the analysis process necessary for its resolution, and to use appropriate CAE tools to derive and critically interpret the results of the simulation.
SmartCAE provides its customers with effective operational support for the development, sizing and optimization of composite materials. Our experience allows us, on the one hand, to take full advantage of the advantages offered by these materials, on the other to dominate their weaknesses, such as the fragile and inhomogeneous behavior, the non-repeatability of performance, the high sensitivity to draping, and to avoid generation of projects that can be carried out with difficulty or non-economic.
The design themes tackled by SmartCAE in the field of composite materials concern both classical approaches to stiffness and/or resistance (first-ply-failure) design, and the evaluation of thermo-structural aspects, and simulations in a progressive damage regime (progressive failure), assessment of priming and delamination progression (through the use of CZM techniques and cohesive elements), fatigue life estimation.
The webinar is a technical seminar in which we talk about some aspects of computer-assisted simulation live. During the webinar one of our technicians, sometimes supported by other experts in the field, addresses the theme of the day through a brief theoretical discussion and some practical examples in real life.
Most webinars are structured like this: a) we begin with a brief introductory part, in which we go into the theme of the day and cite any theoretical references, b) we continue with a live demonstration, in which we focus the practical aspects of the simulation and c) we conclude with an interactive session of questions and answers in which the participants can place these to the expert.
Registration and participation in the webinar is completely free. This is a service we offer free to the community of engineers who want to learn about the news of the computer simulation world.
